Top 10 International Travel Tips

I’ve traveled all over the world and here are my top 10 international travel tips:

  1. If you are in need of some cash, find a sister bank or ATM from whom you bank with to avoid fees.
  2. Be sure to bring an international converter to charge your electronics.
  3. Locate the embassy, hospital, and police department.
  4. Have a major credit card that does not incur foreign transaction fees. I am personally a fan of the American Express Credit Card. I earn points based on my spending, which I can use in hotels, flights, car rentals, and gift cards. I’ll explain how to travel in style without breaking the bank.
  5.  I recommend taking a picture of your Identification (ID) and Passport.
  6. International calls or using wifi data (options)
    1. Contact your phone provider to view international plans
    2. If you choose not to purchase an international plan for making calls or using data
      • use free apps such as WhatsApp and Tango (turn your phone to airplane mode and make sure your phone is on wi-calling)
    3. Buy an international sim card
    4. Purchase a wi-fi router to make sure you are always connected
  7. Download currency converter app to assist with currency exchange rates.
  8. Download Google translates to help with language barriers.
  9. Use public transportation/ taxi, Uber or Lyft if it is available in the country to keep cost down.
  10. When searching for a place to stay, try Airbnb to keep your cost down (Once you made your travel plans please verify with hotel or airbnb to confirm your reservations and notify them of your arrival time)

International Summer Travel Tip: Please purchase your museum tickets in advance especially when traveling during peak seasons. (many places will be sold out on arrival)

Tour Tips: I am a huge fan of hop on hop off tours. It is the most economical way to view the city, especially when you are visiting a destination for a short period. Rather than visiting each tourist location one by one, this option saves you time and money.
